These days, church set design has become a hot topic. It has become a growing want and need for most churches and a demanding taste to keep up with, from sermon series looks, to just simply needing a fresh design. This task of creating fresh set designs is one that can seem daunting and stressful.
Here are some simple tips to help with this task:
First, I am a firm believer that I don't have to have all the answers. A good place to start is to surround yourself with people smart and more creative than yourself. Collaborate with a team in search for fresh ideas, and put them all on the table for discussion. You will be surprised on what comes out of this.
Time is your friend, but can also be your enemy, so plan these events with time. If it is a sermon series look you are going for, then reach out to the Pastor with time. Don't wait for them to come to you. It's your job to reach out to them.
Pastors have a million things to think about and this is something you can help alleviate from them. Therefore, there is power in numbers and usually more creative people than you, so use that power to help create these ideas.
Second, there always is the issue of a budget.
Don't we all wish we had an unlimited budget, where we could do anything we want?
Well, that world doesn't exist, and never use the excuse of, "I just don't have the budget to do what we want." This is where creativity comes into play, or should I say ingenuity.
Excellence is doing the best with what you have, and not necessarily always having the best. Gather your team and propose the issue and work together to find a solution. There are tons of websites and searches you can do that can help with the budget constraints that you may be dealing with on a regular basis.
Use the power of the internet and discover the ideas of others to gather a look that is unique to your situation.
Lastly, keep it simple.
One of the issues with gathering a team together to form ideas, is that it tends to get complicated. It's your job as the leader to help drive that direction into something that is amazing, but simple.
I have searched heavily, on the internet, for set designs. It is so impressive to me when I see something so simple, but so amazing. There is something about a simple look that just does it for me.
Strive to keep your sets simple, because understand the strong likelihood that they are usually going to change, and often rather quickly.
