Why Should Churches Be Concerned With LED Technology?
First of all, churches should consider the fact that God created all resources so that humans could use them wisely and utilize them. This is a lot similar to the going green' movement, which is perceived to be a political campaign at most times. But going green isn't something political, rather it is more of the biblical stewardship concept:
- God created and owns all things
- God also charged humanity to exercise dominion over His creations
- God expects us to manage all the resources wisely
Apart from following the biblical concept of stewardship, churches can increase their budget through savings.
Lighting and Government Regulations
According to federal government regulations to save and conserve energy, a number of steps have been taken, like:
- 100w bulbs manufacturing was banned on 12/31/2011
- 75w bulbs manufacturing was banned on 1/1/2013
- 60w & 40w bulbs manufacturing was banned on 1/1/2014
Adding to all these bans, Halogen bulbs are also banned now
Transitioning To LED
Change and adopting something new isn't easy, churches need to consider the following when transitioning to LED's:
Discover- The respective authorities of the church should look around for instructions from their energy providers and survey other churches as well, which might have switched to LEDS.
Develop- Churches should look at this transition from an open-minded perspective. They should build up a network of trusted relationships, so that they know they are proceeding with caution and not buying things they don't need.
Determine- After that, churches should specifically determine their area of need, the benefits of this transition and the return on investment they would be able to get.
Deploy- Upon going through the above thought processes, churches should then implement the transition plan, keeping track of the positive impact they get. If they are able to generate positive results they should share this information with other churches.
Direction- After implementing the transition plan in one area of the church, it should be taken a step forward. Courts light, theatrical, worship center lights, parking lot lights, every light should be changed to LEDs for maximum savings.
Implementing the transition might seem complicated but if the churches are able to find the right dealer who is transparent and supports the cause of the church, they will help make wise decisions. It should be ensured that the dealer has prior experience working with LED technology to avoid any mishap. Price or savings shouldn't be the primary concern rather the church should be more bible oriented. They should realize what they are doing by saving energy is what God wants them to do.
