Red Rocks Church has flourished since its inception seven years ago. This growth has fueled the expansion of the church's space from a single meeting place in Heritage Square just west of Denver to three fully operational campuses throughout Colorado (Golden, Littleton, and Lakewood). The latest campus addition is in Lakewood, which was established as a centerpoint for community engagement.
Red Rocks Lakewood seeks to transcend the narrow scope of exclusivity. It seeks to provide the broader community as an everydate meeting place for the fostering of relationships between neighbors and God. With that in mind, Visioneering Studios Inc. embraced the Lakewood culture and its refreshingly energetic vibes to give the existing 49,496-square-foot structure a much needed facelift.
Adaptive Reuse/Renovation (Red Rocks Church)
Project Size: 801-2000 seats
Completion Date: February 1, 2015
First on this list for improvement was the 1,044-seat worship center. It needed to appropriately accommodate the expanding congregation. Next was the central hub. Visioneering erected a meeting place in the Lobby Café, providing daily access to a variety of delicacies and afternoon caffeine fixes. Following this was the Children's Ministry which Visioneering, in conjunction with Plain Joe Studios, created as an entertaining environment promoting physical activity (namely, a six foot climbing wall for the most adventurous of explorers) and teamwork within biblically-themed sets. Lastly, new administration offices were installed, officially marking the daily on-site presence of the church.
As per findings during a BlueSky Workshop, Visioneering worked to correct car gridlock and foottraffic issues outside the space. It redirected traffic to a flowing, multi-use community complex. This was accomplished by creating functional spaces between the buildings, which included directional imagery and graphics to avoid any traffic jams.
