As part of an overall campus expansion program Chase Oaks Church in Plano, Texas, reports that it is planning to add 800 seats to an existing 1,200-seat multipurpose worship center. The architect hired for the expansion plans is Dallas's Good Fulton & Farrell (GFF) Church Works Studio headed by Director Stephen Pickard, AIA, NCARB.
The former flat floor multipurpose venue will feature new fixed, terraced seating that will greatly improve sightlines to the platform and create a worship experience that is more intimate and community-centered, GFF reports. The area directly beneath the new seating elements is efficiently utilized as a "wrap around" community commons that is bathed in natural light by surrounding windows.
According to GFF, the windows also create a transparent condition on the building's exterior that reveals the vibrant interior spaceswhile conceptually becoming an extension of the surrounding community. Angled concrete tilt-wall panels and metal louvers will be utilized to shield glass areas from the Texas sun.
