Friendship Baptist Church Installs Unique Flooring

Friendship Baptist Church of Fairview, Texas, now has a unique look for the flooring in its brand new family worship/recreation center. Pastor Dave Saffle says the building team wanted a floor for the worship/recreation/fellowship room that would be welcoming for both worshippers and participants in its recreational programs.

The 7,000 square feet of Taraflex Sport M Plus flooring has a unique appearance. After looking at traditional floor layouts and computer-generated models, the team decided to lead and be the first to install the “Taraflex Vector Square” pattern. Rolls of Taraflex Maple Design flooring were cut into 4’11” by 4’11” squares and placed in a multi-directional pattern creating a look very similar to parquet flooring.

The building team looked at new and older installations with Taraflex Sports Flooring and came away with a positive impression. “We definitely liked the wood look,” Pastor Saffle explains. “We liked the feel of the floor which gives a bit and makes it more comfortable to walk and run on.”

“We knew it was not just going to be a gym floor but used for services also,” says Pastor Saffle. “We wanted a floor people stepped onto and said ‘WOW’ and in essence that’s what we got.”

The floor has been impressing church members and visitors alike. Since the center’s official opening in September 2008, it has been used for Awana games, weekly basketball games by at least six teams from the community and worship services. More intensive use is coming this summer when a sports ministry will be in place and operating sports camps, children’s Upwards basketball and cheerleading, young adult volleyball, men’s basketball, and youth events such as dodge ball.

Since September, representatives from numerous other churches and organizations with interest in the distinctive flooring pattern have toured the center. After seeing the flooring design, two of the visiting organizations decided to install the Taraflex Vector Square pattern.

“The installation at Friendship Baptist Church demonstrates Taraflex’s versatility in the activities it can be used for and its appearance,” says Nicolas Bauer, Gerflor national sports marketing manager. “This innovative design will add to Taraflex’s growing popularity as the sports flooring of choice.”

Friendship Baptist Church (FBC) was established in 1909 by a forward-thinking, faith-filled group of people. The worship facility was completed in April of 2000. FBC has been a family-oriented church since its inception and that feeling of being “part of the Friendship family” continues today. Construction of the new 21,000-square-foot multi-purpose building (worship, fellowship, recreation) began in June 2006 with completion in the spring of 2008. Learn more at www.friendship-church.com.
