Apply Now for 2009 Energy Star Congregations Award

Research shows an increase in individuals wishing to align themselves with “green” congregations. With environmental stewardship being such a high priority for younger members, organizations are trying to be environmentally responsible in order to stay relevant to this younger generation.

Congregations may apply now for a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Energy Star Congregations Award. Past award recipients have received national media coverage as well as notoriety closer to home.

The 2009 Energy Star Congregations Awards are open to any congregation that has increased the energy efficiency of its facility through energy management improvements during the last two years. Preference will be shown to congregations that have used Energy Star tools and resources to achieve success. Although it is not a requirement, the free online Portfolio Manager tool can help track energy savings and demonstrate success for the application. Free webcast training for Portfolio Manager is also available.

EPA for Congregations will present a free workshop offering assistance with the awards application via WebEX with the technical support team May 5, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The sessions will run for approximately one hour and will provide a brief overview of the awards and an extended question and answer session. All potential applicants are invited to attend. Click here for session registration.
