The National Association of Church Design Builders (NACDB) announces the election of David Batten, founder and president of JH Batten Inc, a design-build firm located in Walkertown, NC, as president. The NACDB was established in 2003 to create a nationwide association of firms committed to becoming specialists in consulting, designing and building church facilities that focus on the ministry needs and styles of churches they serve. The NACDB exists to educate local churches in evaluating their needs regarding buying, building, expanding, remodeling or leasing facilities.
Batten, a fourth generation builder, grew up working alongside his father, J. Harold Batten, in the family business. In 1990 he founded JH Batten with a specific focus on commercial construction projects. Soon after beginning his first church project in 1994, Batten realized that his passion was helping churches – not just by building a physical building, but in helping churches build their ministries to accomplish their vision.
Batten was one of the charter members of the NACDB, which was launched out of an industry event when he and six other CEOs recognized the need – and their passion – of working in the church market. From that early start, the NACDB today has almost 100 full and associate members across the country.
Following the NACDB’s decision, Batten stated “It has been a great thrill to be able to bring Design Builders and other Church providers together and watch them sharpen each other. To see them grow in their understanding of the Church has been inspiring. It’s also gratifying to be able to walk a church through the traditionally trying building process. It is my honor to serve this great organization.”
Both JH Batten and the NACDB have had a long relationship with Worship Facilities magazine, including members serving on the Advisory Board, presenters at the annual WFX Conferences since the beginning, and as major sponsors at WFX events.
JH Batten currently serves church clients in NC, SC, VA, TN, and GA. Six JHB staff members have completed the rigorous “Certified Church Consultant” process that Batten was instrumental in developing for the NACDB.
