Automated messaging, be it through voice, text, and/or email, is already well established as a tool churches can use for improving communications and increasing membership participation in events and overall church service attendance. And it can also play a useful role in optimizing the results of church fundraising efforts, according to Jill Bailey, senior marketing specialist with PhoneTree, a Winston-Salem, N.C.-based provider of automated messaging technologies for faith-based organizations, healthcare and the business community.

One of the major ways PhoneTree's church clients use automated messaging is in reminding members near the end of the year to fulfill their annual pledges, Bailey reports. "It's also a good way to make requests for special offeringsas well as acknowledging and thanking members of the congregation for what they have given, as well as for things like returning stewardship commitment cards."

According to Susan Grieser, administrative assistant at St. John's Christian Church in Archbold, Ohio, automated messaging from PhoneTree is a tool that can be used to quickly, regularly, and effectively connect with church members about a variety of subjects, including those related to giving.

"PhoneTree has allowed us to communicate so many church-related items like special worship services, special offerings, prayer concerns, committee meetings, weather cancellations the list goes on and on," Grieser says. "It has been an extremely useful tool that has saved us countless hours of calling and postage."
