Book Aimed at Igniting Church Giving Debuts in Dallas at CLA Conference

The 60-page devotional tackles frequently misunderstood topic

The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) debuts a devotional at the 2011 Christian Leadership Alliance (CLA) conference in Dallas, designed to inspire Christians to give generously.

“Igniting a Life of Generosity” by Chris McDaniel reportedly serves as a Scripture-based guide churches can use to tackle the frequently misunderstood topic of giving. The 60-page devotional was released on April 26, 2011. “During these tough economic times, it’s important for Christian leaders to continue to convey God’s powerful message about giving,” ECFA President Dan Busby says. “Generosity is a theme seen throughout the Scriptures. We are excited about releasing this resource that emphasizes how generosity correlates to a more transforming journey with Christ.”

ECFA describes “Igniting a Life of Generosity” as an insightful devotional to help readers develop a practical and personal theology for generous giving. Readers will be challenged to become more cheerful givers. The devotional is divided into three sections: “What does God want you to know?” “What does He want you to do?” and “Ignite the Fire.” Each day contains anecdotes and stories from popular Christian leaders and authors that explore the heart of giving. Corresponding Scripture references anchor each day’s main thought, and insightful questions help readers more deeply consider the material.

McDaniel, the book’s author, is the chief business development officer for Delta Ministries International of Vancouver, Wash., an interdenominational evangelical organization that supports U.S. and international local churches by specializing in short-term and mid-term missions.

“God calls us to be generous with our time, talent and treasure,” says Todd Harper, president of Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Generous Giving, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to spread the biblical message of generosity and to help grow givers. “This devotional is an excellent tool to encourage believers in their journey to have a transformed heart that is increasingly generous.”
