Team Development: When We Come Together, Anything Can Happen

Team Development: When We Come Together, Anything Can Happen

Jesus is the reason why we do what we do. Our talents are His. Our hearts are His. Our goal is to serve Him.

" I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought."
1Corinthians 1:10

That is one of those scriptures in the Bible you look at and wonder, "Is He serious?" How can you be "perfectly united in mind and thought?"

We can only succeed when we are working together as one.

Over and over, the Bible talks about how good it is for us to be in unity. There's a reason the Bible points this out. Because without teamwork, we are a house divided. We cannot stand.

A House Undivided

If we realize that, then it is easy to see how the enemy comes in and tries to destroy. Competition, ego, jealousy are all tools used to create division. Our creative department is made up of the most creative folks in our church. The personality differences are immense. There are a several key team development points we go over with everyone, before you commit.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

“Not ego but we-go" -Mushu (Mulan)
Mushu saw the bigger picture. Egos must be dropped at the door. We are the body. Every role is vital.

We can only succeed when we are working together as one. Your talents mean nothing if you can't work together.

We're A Family

*WARNING* If you're squeamish, stop reading here and go to the next point. Our first day of training last summer, we all sat in a circle and I gave everyone a wet wipe. I asked them to take a moment and clean their ears, inside and out. Make sure you don't miss a spot. When you're done, lay them in front of you. You could cut the nervous tension with a knife. Everyone was a little embarrassed. As the nerves began to settle, we realized all of us had a spot or two of something we didn't want anyone to see. Things we didn't see ourselves.

You could see the walls begin to fall exposing vulnerabilities. Our team began to realize the importance of letting our guards down and trusting each other with our stinks. When you trust each other on that level, you work together flawlessly because you know there is no competition.

More importantly, when we have struggles, either at church or at home, we can trust our church family.

The Goal is More Important Than Your Role

This is not about you.

Sounds tough but it is truth.

Jesus is the reason why we do what we do. Our talents are His. Our hearts are His. Our goal is to serve Him. We each play a role in that goal, but the role is never more important than the goal.

Teamwork and team development are essential to healthy church life. If we are to reach the world for Christ, we are to do it hand in hand.

We all play a vital role in building the kingdom. When we come together, as a team, anything can happen.

"Unity is strengthwhen there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved." -Mattie Stepanek
